A Hundredth Entrepreneur Admitted to YBR at the Selection Panel Meeting in Novosibirsk

The first Selection Panel of the Youth Business Russia (YBR) programme for Novosibirsk Oblast was held on July 5, 2011 in the office of the Novosibirsk Regional Foundation for Microfinancing of Small and Medium Business, where the hundredth project — manufacturing of automated slot machines — was approved for the programme.

The regional YBR coordinator in Novosibirsk Oblast Oleg Suvorov introduced seven shortlisted young entrepreneurs who had their business plans ready to the Selection Panel members. The shortlisters gave presentations of their projects in turn. The Selection Panel found four of them feasible for funding through the programme, including opening of a hostel (a mini hotel), retail distribution of interseasonal footwear, manufacturing of composites, and manufacturing of automated slot machines.

Loans worth 600,000 (six hundred thousand) rubles were approved for the four projects in total. 25 positions of employment are planned to be opened; two dependents are being maintained by the young entrepreneurs.

The project of manufacturing of automated slot machines developed by Pavel Morozov became the hundredth project to be financed through the YBR programme in Russia. The purpose of the project is to arrange production of slot machines selling flowers and gifts. Such slot machines can be installed in areas with limited shopping space not allowing for a capacious 24-hour sales outlet, as well as in places where operation without a selling assistant will be a competitive edge. An important advantage is a cooling system. It should also be noted that Pavel himself is the developer and the task originator for slot machine design.

The meeting was moderated by Chairman of the Selection Panel in Novosibirsk Oblast Alexander Kangro, the Executive Director of the Novosibirsk Regional Foundation for Microfinancing of Small and Medium Business.

Two representatives of KPMG, a partner company to the programme, also took part in the Selection Panel, namely Svetlana Skryagina and Denis Chernikov, director of the Novosibirsk branch of KPMG.

YBR was launched in Novosibirsk Oblast on March 11, 2011 with the participation of Minister of Industry, Trade, and Entrepreneurial Development of Novosibirsk Oblast Sergey Syomka, Head of the Branch Office in Russia of the International Business Leaders Forum (IBLF), Youth Business Russia Programme Manager Boris Tkachenko and Nicholas Denny, from Credit Suisse. The programme is being implemented in cooperation with the International Business Leaders Forum (IBLF), the Government of the Novosibirsk oblast represented by the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Entrepreneurial Development of Novosibirsk Oblast, the Novosibirsk Regional Foundation for Microfinancing of Small and Medium Business, and the Novosibirsk Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and supported by The Prince’s Youth Business International (YBI), U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), OXFAM British non-governmental and non-profit organization, Credit Suisse EMEA Foundation, and KPMG.
