Youth Business Russia is launched in Moscow

On May 25, the Moscow Mayor’s office held a press conference announcing the launch of the Youth Business Russia programme in Moscow.

The programme will be implemented in partnership with the Moscow Department of Science, Industrial policy, and Entrepreneurship, the International Business Leaders Forum (IBLF) and the Russian Microfinancing Centre (RMC).

Under the programme, young people just starting out as entrepreneurs get multifaceted, comprehensive support – training, help from mentors, and access to financing. Special attention is paid to creating new jobs, and to the social dimensions of business. At the press conference, leaders from these organisations spoke, and signed agreement on cooperating in the spheres of support and development of youth entrepreneurship in Moscow.

We must use a comprehensive approach to supporting new entrepreneurs. Under the Youth Business Russia programme, young people gain access to financing, help from individual mentors, and consulting and training in various aspects of running a business,” said Alexey Komissarov, head of the Moscow Department of Science, Industrial policy and Entrepreneurship. “One of the most important parts of the programme is the mentorship provided by experienced businesspeople. Before I came to head this department, I took part as a businessman in a mentorship programme run by the International Business Leaders Forum (IBLF) and the US-Russia Center for Entrepreneurship, and I know through my own experience how essential this type of support is for young entrepreneurs.”

In Moscow we will use international experience, already adapted to the Russian situation. In the future, Moscow is supposed to become an example for other cities and regions at the federal level, and will take active part in international research on support for entrepreneurship in capital cities, and knowledge exchange,” said Boris Tkachenko, head of the Youth Business Russia programme. “I would like to note especially that the programme is being implemented in all regions in inter-sector partnership, and is open to new cooperation. In Moscow, the US-Russia Center for Entrepreneurship, KPMG, and Hogan Lovells have already expressed their intention to support the programme. The Youth Council of the Department is also planning to take part in the Youth Business Russia programme. It will coordinate the programme’s implementation in Moscow (the contact telephone number for new entrepreneurs is +7 495 772 12 53).

The Russian Microfinancing Centre works actively with IBLF, and we are already a partner of the Youth Business Russia programme in the Voronezh region,” said Mikhail Mamuta, president of NAUMIR (National Partnership of Microfinance Market Players) and director of the Russian Microfinancing Centre. “Microfinancing is an important element of support for new entrepreneurs, especially young ones. We believe one measure of such support would be the development in Moscow of a microfinancing centre, which could help many entrepreneurs get the funds to start their own business.”

Support for youth entrepreneurship is a logical continuation of programmes on stimulation of business creation by students and higher education graduates of Moscow,” said Dmitry Knyazev, head of the division for support and development of small and medium businesses, under the Moscow Department of Science, Industrial policy and Entrepreneurship.
